Players News

Devin Vassell got his first career start on Tuesday, finishing with six points, six rebounds and a block in 24 minutes.

Feb 09   11:54 PM

Despite the quiet night, Vassell became the first lottery pick selected by the Spurs to start a game since Tim Duncan in 1997. Yes, he is the team's only lottery pick since then, but it's still a crazy note from tonight's game. Vassell shot 2-of-7 and made one 3-pointer but this was just the first many starts to come in his career.

Keldon Johnson had a decent night on Tuesday vs. the Warriors, scoring 13 points with six rebounds, six assists and a block.

Feb 09   11:54 PM

Johnson shot just 5-of-16 and failed to make a three in 33 minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Dubs. Since Feb. 1, he's scored 25, 6, 10, 9 and now 13 and is shooting just 36% from the floor and 25% from beyond the arc. We'll call this a shooting slump and hopefully, it's one that KJ can get out of on Friday vs. the Hawks.

Eric Paschall was hot during Tuesday's 114-91 win vs. the Spurs, hitting 6-of-7 shots including 3-of-3 from deep for 15 points, six rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes.

Feb 09   11:54 PM

Paschall only had one double-digit scoring performance in his previous seven games, and the boards tonight were his highest in over a month. The most damning fact for fantasy purposes, however, is that he's collected zero blocks and one steal since Jan. 3. That's a span of 267 minutes played with one defensive stat. There's extra potential for playing time with Golden State's frontcourt so thinned-out, but we'll need a few more similar performances before being swayed to pick him up.

Lonnie Walker returned from a two-game absence, going scoreless with three rebounds and two assists in Tuesday's loss to the Warriors.

Feb 09   11:54 PM

Walker was on a minutes restriction after missing the last couple of games with an illness but was ultra-quiet, going 0-of-5 from the floor and missing all three of his 3-pointers in 18 minutes. He'll have two days off to get 100% healthy before the Spurs' next game on Friday vs. the Hawks.

Josh Hart dominated the glass on Tuesday night, grabbing a career-high 17 rebounds with 20 points, three assists, a steal and two blocks.

Feb 09   11:17 PM

Hart has always been known as a great rebounding guard but he took things personally on Tuesday when he nearly grabbed 20 boards. He also made 8-of-16 field goals, three triples and for the first time this season, he blocked multiple shots in a game. All this after being coming into the night with a questionable tag. Fun fact about Hart that you maybe didn't know, he's averaging more rebounds per game (7.4) than his teammate Zion Williamson (7.1).

Willy Hernangomez recorded his second double-double of the season on Tuesday, posting 14 points, 10 boards, four assists, a steal and a block in the Pelicans' 130-101 win.

Feb 09   11:17 PM

Hernangomez got some extra playing time tonight as the Pelicans were up big and he made the most of it, converting on 5-of-8 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws in 25 minutes. It was a good game for the back-up big but it likely won't happen again unless it comes in a blowout or a spot-start.

Elfrid Payton played 27 minutes in Tuesday’s loss to the Heat, finishing with 18 points (8-of-16 FGs, 1-of-1 FTs), four rebounds, four assists, one steal and one 3-pointer.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

Payton has been playing some good basketball recently, scoring 18 points or more in three of the Knicks’ last four games. While some within the fan base may not be thrilled with the Knicks’ starting point guard, he has clearly earned the trust of coach Tom Thibodeau. Payton doesn’t offer much when it comes to consistent fantasy value, but his presence in the starting lineup makes him a player worth rostering in deeper leagues. Payton is rostered in 38% of Yahoo leagues.

Sterling Brown played 26 minutes off the bench on Tuesday, scoring 11 points with six boards, three assists and two steals in a 130-101 loss to the Pelicans.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

Victor Oladipo was resting on Tuesday and Eric Gordon did on Monday, allowing Brown to play significant minutes for the second night in a row. He made 4-of-6 field goals with three 3-pointers and has at least eight points in four of his last five. He's not a solid option just yet, but keep an eye on him when multiple Rockets are out of the lineup.

Julius Randle shot 4-of-17 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line in Tuesday’s loss to the Heat, tallying 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 37 minutes.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

Combine the field goal percentage with his three turnovers, and this game goes down as one of Randle’s worst of the season to date. Given how productive he has been on most nights, one subpar performance isn’t a cause for concern. Randle had a Yahoo 9-cat ADP of 82, but he has been a top-50 player in both 8- and 9-cat formats this season. Fantasy managers who have him rostered should be thrilled with Randle’s overall play/production.

Zion Williamson had an efficient game on Tuesday, posting 20 points with five rebounds, seven assists and a steal in the Pelicans' 130-101 win over the Rockets.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

He picked up his third foul with 10:07 left in the second quarter, forcing him to sit the remainder of the period and limiting his first-half production. But Zion still had a good outing, knocking down 6-of-10 shots and 8-of-10 free throws in just 21 minutes. Had it not been for the foul trouble, he might've had a 30-10 game. But 20/5/7/1 is still really good for the second-year pro.

Austin Rivers was a DNP-CD in Tuesday's loss to the Heat.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

With Derrick Rose making his second Knicks debut, Rivers was the odd man out in the perimeter rotation. With starters Elfrid Payton and RJ Barrett playing 27 minutes apiece, Alec Burks 26, Immanuel Quickley 21 and Derrick Rose 20, there wasn't any room in the rotation for Rivers. And that could be the case for him moving forward, as well. The few who still have Rivers rostered need to drop him onto the waiver wire.

Brandon Ingram shot the ball really well on Tuesday vs the Rockets, recording 22 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block in the win.

Feb 09   10:58 PM

Ingram shot 69% from the floor and made three triples, leading the Pelicans in scoring and powering them to a 130-101 win. He's scored at least 20 points in all five games in February with 14 made threes on 46/42/94 shooting splits. He'll look to keep his streak alive Wednesday against the Bulls.

Kelly Olynyk shot 6-of-8 from three in Tuesday’s win over the Knicks, accounting for 20 points (7-of-10 FGs), three rebounds and one blocked shot in 31 minutes.

Feb 09   10:35 PM

Olynyk, who wasn’t even on the radar of most leagues before this season began, has been one of the biggest surprises in fantasy basketball. He’s currently hovering just outside of the top-100 in both 8- and 9-cat formats, and with Meyers Leonard (shoulder) out for the year there’s one less person for Olynyk to compete for minutes with. He and Bam Adebayo have a good balance in the frontcourt, which will preserve Olynyk’s fantasy value moving forward. He should be rostered in more than just 34% of Yahoo leagues.

Danuel House had another nice game on Tuesday, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Feb 09   10:35 PM

House was back to a reserve role with John Wall and Eric Gordon in the lineup but he still had a solid night, recording season-highs in rebounds and steals while also dishing out a handful of assists. He didn't shoot the ball particularly well, going 4-of-13 and 1-of-7 from deep. But he's now scored in double figures in four of his last five, making him a quality pick-up in standard and deep leagues.

Bam Adebayo tallied 19 points (3-of-9 FGs, 13-of-16 FTs), six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 35 minutes Tuesday vs. the Knicks.

Feb 09   10:35 PM

Adebayo and Jimmy Butler made a living at the foul line in the two-point victory, as both scored 13 points from the charity stripe. In the case of Bam, he established season-highs in both made free throws and free throw attempts. And with the big fella shooting nearly 86% for the season, nights like this will be welcomed by those who have Adebayo rostered. He’s currently providing 2nd-round value in both 8- and 9-cat formats, sitting just inside of the top-20 in the former.

Tyler Herro shot 6-of-15 from the field in Tuesday’s win over the Knicks, accumulating 15 points, seven rebounds, four assist and three 3-pointers in 36 minutes.

Feb 09   10:35 PM

Herro came off the bench again, with Kendrick Nunn (11/2/3/1 with three 3-pointers in 33 minutes) getting another start. Those two are essentially interchangeable within the Heat rotation, and they will continue to surpass the 30-minute mark with Goran Dragic (sprained left ankle) sidelined. Herro has scored 15 points or more in four straight, and nine of his last 10 games, and over the last week he’s providing top-100 value in both 8- and 9-cat formats.

John Wall was back on the court on Tuesday, scoring 25 points with four rebounds and six assists in the Rockets' 130-101 loss to the Pelicans.

Feb 09   10:19 PM

Wall sat out Monday but played the back end of a back-to-back, hitting 11-23 field goals in 34 minutes. He struggled from distance, however, going 2-of-8 on such attempts and he was even worse on free throws where he went 1-of-6, his worst mark of the season. Not exactly his best effort with Victor Oladipo (rest) out.

Saddiq Bey shot 6-of-6 from the field in Tuesday’s win over Brooklyn, scoring 15 points with three rebounds, two assists and three 3-pointers in 21 minutes.

Feb 09   10:19 PM

Bey did all of his damage in the fourth quarter, helping Detroit put away Brooklyn with 15 fourth-quarter points. The rookie forward isn’t worth rostering right now, but he’s a player worth tracking for the second half of the season. Bey shouldn’t lack for minutes if the Pistons find themselves well out of the race for a playoff spot.

Delon Wright posted a line of 22 points (7-of-16 FGs, 8-of-12 FTs), four rebounds, nine assists and two assists in 37 minutes in Tuesday’s win over the Nets.

Feb 09   9:46 PM

The trade of Derrick Rose didn’t change much for Wright when it comes to his role, as he was already the unquestioned starter at the point with Killian Hayes (hip) sidelined. If anything, fantasy managers should get used to Wright hitting the mid-to-high 30s in minutes on a consistent basis. and he has been productive to boot. Over the last two weeks, Wright is providing 6th-round value in 9-cat formats, and 7th-round value in 8-cat.

Kyrie Irving shot 12-of-28 from the field in Tuesday’s loss to the Pistons, accounting for 27 points, two rebounds, seven assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 35 minutes.

Feb 09   9:46 PM

Irving didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, but the overall line should be enough to keep him among the top-10 players in fantasy basketball. The Nets have three top-10 players, two of whom were healthy Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough to keep them from getting beat by double digits in Detroit. There were clear moments of frustration due to their defensive struggles, so that’s something to keep an eye on moving forward. Irving’s fantasy value is secure, regardless of what happens on the defensive end of the floor.
