Players News

Ivica Zubac recorded his second double-double of the season on Sunday, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 24 minutes vs. the Thunder.

Jan 24   7:12 PM

Zubac also blocked two shots for his first multi-block game in January, though to his credit he's had at least one swat in seven of the past eight games. He played a ton down the stretch tonight, with coach Ty Lue explaining afterward that he "felt Zu was in rhythm and rolling." We don't expect him to displace Serge Ibaka (17 points in 22 minutes) very often, so just count yourself lucky if you had him in active lineups for this strong effort.

Reggie Jackson started the second half of Sunday's win in OKC, finishing with 14 points (4-of-8 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), two 3-pointers, one assist and one turnover in 20 minutes.

Jan 24   7:12 PM

The key for Jackson isn't his modest production on Sunday, but the fact that Patrick Beverley didn't play after halftime due to right knee soreness. R-Jax played a mere 18.0 minutes in his lone start this season, though that was a blowout in which Terence Mann (four minutes on Sunday) logged a season-high 30 minutes off the bench. If Beverley is forced to miss more time with this knee ailment, Jackson will be a popular streaming option and an affordable dice roll in DFS.

Gary Clark will move into the starting lineup for Sunday's game vs. the Hornets, with Aaron Gordon (back) unavailable.

Jan 24   7:12 PM

Clark has earned two starts so far this season, but he hasn't done much when given the increased opportunity with measly averages of 1.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and not much else on 14.3% shooting, so we don't think he'd be a great streamer today. Joining him in the starting unit will be Cole Anthony, Evan Fournier, James Ennis and Nikola Vucevic.

Clint Capela (sore right hand) will not suit up for Sunday's game against the Bucks.

Jan 24   7:12 PM

His hand must be sore from swatting all those shots on Friday. The Hawks next two games will come as a back-to-back set, so it's possible Capela will need to skip Tuesday's matchup with the Clippers as well, but we wouldn't anticipate a prolonged absence here. John Collins will get a major boost with Capela off the floor, and there will be more minutes available for guys like Danilo Gallinari, Bruno Fernando and Nathan Knight.

Goran Dragic (bruised right foot) is probable for Monday's game vs. the Nets.

Jan 24   5:58 PM

Jimmy Butler and Avery Bradley have already been ruled out due to health and safety protocols, so Dragic should once again be very busy if he plays. The Heat don't want to play him a ton of minutes, but 30+ seems like a safe bet until Miami gets some healthy bodies back in the rotation.

Aaron Nesmith (lower back spasms) is available for Sunday's game vs. the Cavs.

Jan 24   5:58 PM

Whether Nesmith earns any minutes is another question, and his availability shouldn't impact any fantasy rosters.

Moe Harkless (bruised left thigh) will not play vs. the Nets on Monday.

Jan 24   5:58 PM

Harkless took a knee to his thigh on a drive during Saturday's game. He was ruled out a day in advance for Monday, which suggests he may need a while to recover, but at least it's just being called a thigh contusion. KZ Okpala slid into his starting spot for the second half on Saturday, and should do so again on Monday for the short-handed Heat.

Domantas Sabonis had his worst shooting game of the season on Sunday, going 1-of-10 from the floor with 10 points, 19 rebounds and five assists.

Jan 24   5:24 PM

With the Pacers trailing 105-102, Sabonis had two chances to cut the lead to one but was blocked at the rim both times to cap off his ugly performance. He made just one field goal but salvaged his scoring effort with a perfect 8-of-8 free throw outing and tacked on a ton of boards and a handful of assists. He won't have many nights like this so no need to worry.

Malcolm Brogdon had his worst game of the 2020-21 season on Sunday, missing 17 of his 22 shots and finishing with just 12 points in the loss.

Jan 24   5:24 PM

Brogdon had a clutch layup late in the game but followed that up with a turnover in the final moments when Fred VanVleet took the ball right out of his hands. Add in the five boards, five assists, steal and block and it doesn't seem too bad, however. A forgettable game indeed for the Pacers point guard who has been otherwise incredible this season, providing top-25 value in 9-cat.

Justin Holiday notched his first double-double of the season on Sunday with 16 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and two steals.

Jan 24   5:24 PM

Holiday had arguably his best game this year, finishing second on the team in points and making four 3-pointers on his way to a season-high scoring mark. He's now scored in double figures in four of his last five contests and has eight swipes with just four turnovers in that span. Holiday is available in 67% of Yahoo leagues.

T.J. McConnell had a season-high eight points off the bench on Sunday, tacking on seven assists, two rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes.

Jan 24   5:24 PM

If you're in need of assists and steals in a deep league, look no further than the scrappy and crafty backup point guard. McConnell has recorded at least six assists in five straight games and has 18 steals in his last seven games. He doesn't score the ball, averaging just 3.7 points a night. But he finds open teammates and gets easy steals off inbounds passes more than any other player in the league.

Aron Baynes had one of his best games of the season on Sunday, tallying 12 points, seven boards, an assist and a block.

Jan 24   4:15 PM

In 17 minutes, Baynes hit 5-of-9 field goals and two 3-pointers in Toronto's 107-102 win over the Pacers. He had more points in this game alone than in the last seven games combined. It was also his first time scoring in double digits since Dec. 26. He's clearly not a reliable fantasy option, especially with the emergence of Chris Boucher, so if you see him on waivers, it's OK to leave him there.

Fred VanVleet filled up the stat sheet on Sunday vs Indy, posting 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.

Jan 24   4:15 PM

FVV had a decent shooting performance, going 6-of-15 from the floor with four 3-pointers and 5-of-5 from the line. He's hit at least four 3-pointers in seven contests this year and is shooting 36% from distance. Fantasy managers have to pleased with the top-40 production VanVleet is providing in 9-cat this year.

Stanley Johnson scored just three points on Sunday vs the Pacers, shooting 1-of-6 from the floor with six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 31 minutes.

Jan 24   3:42 PM

Johnson made his first start of the season vs Indy with Pascal Siakam (knee) out but was relatively quiet until late in the game. He barely hit his first shot with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter but did block a  Domantas Sabonis putback attempt in the final seconds to help the Raptors secure a win. Toronto plays again tomorrow but even if Siakam isn't back, Kyle Lowry might be so it's safe to leave Johnson on waivers.

Grant Riller and Nate Darling (not with team) have been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Magic.

Jan 24   2:31 PM

Neither Riller nor Darling have been rotation players for the Hornets this season, so this news has no impact when it comes to fantasy basketball.

Quinndary Weatherspoon (left knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Wizards.

Jan 24   2:31 PM

Originally listed as questionable, Weatherspoon will have to wait at least one more game before he's able to make his season debut. Even then he's unlikely to be a consistent rotation player, so he can be left on the waiver wire.

JaKarr Sampson (illness) has been upgraded to probable for Sunday's game against the Raptors.

Jan 24   12:53 PM

Sampson was listed as questionable on Saturday's injury report, and it seems likely that he will be able to give it a go Sunday afternoon. That being said, he doesn't offer much in the way of fantasy value, especially with Myles Turner (hand) back in the rotation.

P.J. Washington said that he still expects to see some time at center, despite the return of Cody Zeller.

Jan 24   12:53 PM

Zeller, who missed a significant amount of time due to a broken wrist, made his return to the Hornets starting lineup Friday night. But that didn't change much when it came to Washington getting minutes at the center position, as he was still utilized in that role at times. For his part, Hornets coach James Borrego said that he's still figuring out "the best mix" of Washington, Zeller and Bismack Biyombo in the rotation. Per Cleaning the Glass, Washington has played 55% of his minutes at center, and he ranks in the 69th percentile in points per possession. By comparison, he ranks in the 10th percentile in points per possession when used at the power forward spot.

Aaron Nesmith (lower back spasms) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cavaliers.

Jan 24   12:53 PM

Nesmith was originally listed as doubtful, so the upgrade is good news. But he isn't a consistent rotation player when available, so he should be left on the waiver wire.

Chris Silva (left hip flexor) was held out of Saturday's loss to the Nets.

Jan 24   10:44 AM

Silva was an active scratch for the Heat's games against Toronto (Friday) and Brooklyn, and has not appeared in a game since January 16. He isn't worth rostering, regardless of league format.
